It Is Time To Pass The Torch To A New Generation Of Tennis Superstars.
The 2021 tennis season is coming to an end, and some players have made major leaps in the rankings. For years, tennis fans have been looking forward to see who will fill the role of the Big Three consisting of Nadal, Djokovic and Federer. Only two members from the next generation of players can be considered true champions on the big stage. This small list includes Daniil Medvedev and Dominic Thiem, both of whom won the US Open.
Whom do you think will be the next No. 1 ATP player? As of now, Medvedev seems to be the greatest threat towards Novak Djokovic, and his World No. 1 ranking spot, however, Alexander Zverev and Stefanos Tsitsipas are not too far behind either. Currently, Djokovic leads Medvedev by 2900 points and it is unlikely anyone will surpass Djokovic until after the Australian Open in the new year.
We are unlikely to see a player dominate the court as we have witnessed in men's tennis over the past two decades. So far, there still seems to be a lack of consistency with some of the top players. To date, Medvedev has been unable to translate his winning results to the clay season, leaving the opportunities open for several other up and coming players. In short, Djokovic still seems to have a strong sense of his No. 1 ranking, but next year will be a real test, as his biggest obstacles lie in his path.
